Video Project – Week 2 (Athilla Meidictine Johanita)

Last week, we have designed the concept of our video. This week, we are going to start the video project by emailing and lettering some institutions to be interviewed but we have some obstacles here. The permission letter is just arrived from the department and the clarity of the appointment is still unclear, we have our call redirected several times to make an appointment and we still have to make a letter and an email permission for each institutions. We have talked to the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal (Ditjen Minerba) and the Indonesian Mining Association (Asosiasi Pertambangan Indonesia) about our project and we have tried to make an appointment with the Director of Mineral and Coal from Ditjen Minerba & the General Secretary of API as well, but still we have to send the permission letter and email for each institution, then we can make the appointment with the sources.

Our topic is about the prohibition of the raw minerals export. In Indonesia, this policy called UU Minerba. The government made this policy in order to provide added value to the minerals. It also regulates about the purification minerals inside the country and ban the mining companies to do the purification outside the country. According to http://www.esdm.go.id/berita/umum/37-umum/6682-spirit-jiwa-dari-undang-undang-minerba-adalah-tidak-boleh-lagi-mengekspor-mineral-mentah.html, if Indonesia ran the policy, the minerals’ value will rise up to 50 times. But the policy doesn’t run effectively so far though it has been applied.

The only perspective which fits our opinion about UU Minerba is liberalist perspective. Because in our opinion, this policy might crash the relations between Indonesia and other countries, it also might decrease foreign investment in Indonesia. In liberalist perspective alone, the good atmosphere of international relations is a must. Then it perfectly fits our opinion.

For the interview process, we haven’t started it, yet because we have just got the permission letter yesterday (May 26^th, 2014) and tomorrow we are going to take it from the department. Last but not least, we are planning to send it to Ditjen Minerba and API on the same day and the email on the next day or on the same day as well.
